Home Remedies For Toothache That Work

Home Remedies For Toothache

Toothaches can differ from mild pain to an unbearable pulsing pain in your teeth or around the jaws. Some of the most common reasons for toothaches are an infection, cavities, an exposed tooth root, gum disease, a cracked tooth or some jaw joint disorder.

We can prevent the majority of tooth related problems by brushing, flossing and using appropriate dental products on a daily basis. However, if you happen to experience toothache, until you  find a dentist, apply one of the following home remedies on your tooth that can ease or completely free you from the pain.

Use Clove Oil

Clove is known as old traditional remedy for numbing nerves as its main compound is eugenol, which is a natural anesthetic. However, there are some things you need to know about how to apply a clove oil. Pouring the oil on the aching area can only worsen the pain, so instead of that put 2 drops of clove oil on a cotton ball and place it on the tooth until the pain recedes.

Salt Water

If you want to kill the pain in your tooth, make a solution of 1 teaspoon of salt with one cup of boiling water. This is the perfect mouthwash solution that will kill all pain. Swish the solution for 30 seconds and spit it out. You can repeat this treatment several times a day.

Sooth Your Ache With Tea

Enjoy a nice cup of peppermint tea while killing the pain in your tooth. Make a tea of 1 teaspoon dried peppermint leaves with 1 cup of boiling water. Let it sit for 20 minutes and after that swish for 20-30 seconds.

Rinse Your Mouth With Hydrogen Peroxide

If in pain or want to kill bacteria and relieve some discomfort, clean your mouth with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. But just like the other home remedies, this is only a temporary solution, so you will have to find a dentist if you want to completely get rid of the pain.

Ice The Place

Another temporary solution is to put an ice cube into a plastic bag, put the bag into a thin cloth and apply it to the aching tooth. Hold it for at least 15 minutes in order to numb the nerves. Or, you can place it on your cheek, over the painful tooth. According to another folklore, if you massage your hand with an ice cube, the nerves in your fingers will send cold signals to your brain and this will help relieve the toothache.

Toothaches occurs from inflammation of the pulp, which is the central portion of the tooth.  Inflammation to the pulp can be caused by dental cavities, infection or trauma, so it is better to find a dentist as soon as possible if you want to find a permanent solution for your toothache.
